To summarize chapter 1- we meet two characters - Robert Cohn and Jake Barnes. We learn about Robert - he went to Princeton, he was a boxer champion. He was Jewish, and a little shy because of it, so he boxed. He got married out of college, had three kids, and later his wife left him. After that he went to work - for a book company and he met a woman, Frances, and she is jealous.
At the end, Jake and Robert decide to go on a trip together.
